Meet The Team
Shawn Spannbauer
- Major: Mechanical Engineering
- Year: Senior
- Position: President. Stratigical design, Mechanical and engine fabrication, battery design and fabrication, master vacuumer.
- Home Town: Fond du Lac, WI
- Time on the Team: This will be my fourth year.
- How did you hear about the team? A former team member told me about it.
- Why do you like being on the team? I have always loved snowmobiling and being on the team allows me to use what I learn in the classroom in a practical way on vehicles that I really enjoy. As a second year team leader, I am excited about this year and expect to do very well at this year's competition.
- An interesting fact about you: I have crashed almost every vehicle I have ever driven.
Mike Solger
- Major: Mechanical Engineering
- Year: Sophomore
- Position: Engine Builder, mechanical leader
- Home Town: Twin Lakes, WI
- Time on the Team: 2nd year
- How did you hear about the team? I was on a campus tour and saw all of the teams.
- Why do you like being on the team? Winter is my favorite season and I love snowmobiling. Working in the shop with the team allows me to learn about the new technology in todays sleds.
- An interesting fact about you: I saved up for 2 years to buy my own welder and I taught myself to how to weld in 6th grade.
Derek Landwehr
- Major: Material Science and Engineering
- Year: Sophomore
- Position: Assistant Team Leader, Muffler Design and Fabrication, tool-box organizer
- Home Town: Kenosha, WI
- Time on the Team: 2nd year
- How did you hear about the team? Engineering Bash and older brother
- Why do you like being on the team? I enjoy the commaraderie of the team and like to work with tools and expand my fabricating skills. Being able to ride the snowmobile after a year of working on it is very rewarding.
- An interesting fact about you: I can eat more ice cream than anyone I know, yet I can't whistle or snap my fingers very well... (and Polaris Factory Team rider is from my hometown)
Paul Birrittella
- Major: Mechanical Engineering
- Year: Senior
- Position: Mechanicals
- Home Town: Chippewa Falls, WI
- Time on the Team: 2nd year
- How did you hear about the team? Looking to get involved.
- Why do you like being on the team? Having such a small team means it takes more responsibility and initiative to get projects done.
- An interesting fact about you: I'll cook the best pizza you've ever had... on the grill.
