Jimmy Dieck

Jimmy Dieck

Year in School: Junior

Major: Mechanical Engineering

Duration on Wisconsin Hybrid: Four semesters

Duties/Projects: I am the Suspension Team Leader so I work under the Mechanical Team Leader on anything suspension related. My teammates are Kevin Abouzeid, Barry Shepherd, Abhi Soni, and Alex Anklam, and they help me wherever I need it to get tasks done. Adam Susa has also been a big help. Fall 2014 my project was to design the eMoove's rear suspension in ADAMS/Car and simulating that design to get camber, toe, and travel path values. We did this because we needed to move some mounting positions for the lower control arm and toe link of our multi-link suspension. One of my current (Spring 2015) projects is to design a shortened toe link that we will cut, remove a piece of metal from, and weld back together using a jig set up that needs to be designed. Another project is to order new half shaft joints that fit into our new electric motor and get the right length rod for our half shafts.

Individual/Team Goals: My goal as the Suspension Leader to so make sure the data I collect is the correct data, that I'm not letting the team down by giving them messed up data. As an individual, I just want to learn more about cars in general, as well as use software that industry leaders use. I also want to get the experience of talking to professionals about parts or orders because I feel like that's important.

Interests or fun/unique fact about me: I collect sneakers for some reason. I still play Minecraft, because it's awesome. I'm pretty good at basketball and football. I'm also a ginger.

Year in School: Senior

Major: Mechanical Engineering

Duration on Wisconsin Hybrid: Four Semesters

Duties/Projects: I am the Chassis Dyno Team Leader so I work underneath the Mechanical Team Leader with a team to fix, maintain, and improve the chassis dyno used to test our hybrid vehicles. This entails running the appropriate plumbing for the dyno and developing and introducing a new data acquisition system to the existing dyno in the shop. During my first year on the team I worked on the Moobuggy project and worked to develop an alternator mounting system and seat bracket for the vehicle.

Individual/Team Goals: Learn as much as possible about the technology and engineering involved in producing a market feasible hybrid vehicle.

Interests or fun/unique fact about me: I spend the majority of me free with motorcycles. Depending on the time of year that includes, riding, repairing, or maintaining.

Duties/Projects: I am working on the floor re-design. I have been doing a lot of FEA work to analyze the strength of the stock floor and compare with our new floor and subframe designs.

Individual/Team Goals: My goal is to help get the eMoove running again by the end of the semester. I am always looking to learn more about different components of our car and about different hybrid technologies.

Interests or fun/unique fact about me: I am a pretty big runner. When the weather is nice I'll do a lot of distance running in my free time. In the winter I like to do a lot of downhill skiing.
